Paying the tourist tax: at the hotel or in the booking price?
Whether the tax is in the price you saw depends on who collects it. For each of the 65 places we cover that charge one, this is what the authority's own rules say.

Paid at the property, usually at check-in or check-out. It comes on top of what you paid the booking site, even when you paid in full.

Is the tourist tax included when I book a hotel online?
Often not. Of the 65 places we cover that charge one, 16 collect it at the property, so it comes on top of what you paid the booking site. In 48, the accommodation or the booking site may collect it depending on how you book, so check whether your booking lists it as included or as payable at the property. In Bologna, it is usually already in the booking price.
When do you pay the tourist tax?
Where the property collects it: usually at check-in or check-out. Where the booking site collects it, you pay it with the booking.
Do I pay the tourist tax in cash?
Our tables record who collects the tax, not how you pay it. Where it is paid at the property, the property decides which payment methods it takes, so ask before you arrive.
